ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero Overview
The ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero is equipped with great numbers of fan headers. Two out of the eight PWM-capable headers are classified as high Amp for pumps and big fans up to 3A. The PWM mode for fans is recommended for fans that are greater than 1A. Another 5 pin header can be connected to the Asus’ fan extension card as this can be used to add other four fans but it has to be purchased separately.
The ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero motherboard has MemOK button right at the top front corner’s which resides nest to the 2-digit post code and the four activity LEDs that signifies the VGA detection, DRAM detection, CPU detection, and boost. The Work of the LEDs is to help those who can’t easily identify the codes from the installed boot should in case anything go wrong such as overclock. The ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero Intel Z270 has three x16-length PCIe 3.0 slots. LGA-1151 options of x16-x0- x4 or x8-x8- x4 pathways are still in play, where the PCH-fed x4 slot doesn’t support SLI. And the reason why you should not use a graphics card in the bottom slot is that the USB of 3.0 front panel header is found beneath it. However, the bottom slot could turn out to be the best place to insert PCIe SSD.
The PCIe x1 slots are open to the point that they can allow longer cards, such as the x4 which must be installed and operated in the x1 mode. It has USB 3.1 connector and cable clearance isn’t an issue for the front panel USB. The Motherboard has six SATA 6 GB/s headers facing forward towards the Maximus IX Hero’s front edge. One of the six SATA lanes is shared with the first M.2 interface when used with a SATA M.2 drive, disabling port 1. When used in PCI-e x4 mode, SATA ports 5 and 6 will be disabled.
